This FSC® Certified bat box is a large 3 crevice box suitable for larger roosts or maternity groups of the small British crevice-dwelling bats - the Common Pipistrelles, Soprano Pipistrelles and Barbastelle's bats. These species make up over three quarters of UK bats.
The inside temperature of the box makes a big difference to the bats, particularly during parturition, so the bat box has been designed, taking into account the UK climate, to warm up faster and stay warmer longer than other nesting boxes for bats. Each of the 3 crevices inside are the right size for the bats, easy for them to climb around in, and have different temperature characteristics, enabling the bats to choose the right one for their requirements.
This Improved box has been designed taking into account our 12 years experience of bat boxes, with the benefit of customer feedback, the latest scientific thinking and advice from experts on British bats. The key features include:

All external panels precision cut from 12mm Exterior Grade FSC® plywood, for Improved heat insulation

Exterior surface stained with black water based woodstain for Improved thermal input, whilst avoiding any possibility of deterring use by bats due to vapour from the stain

Ladder acts as "convector heater" for bat box - when sun shines on ladder, warm air rises into the box, but does not come out when the outside cools
