About Us

The Nestbox Company brings together the skills and expertise of our family to produce great quality nest boxes designed specifically for UK wildlife. We started making nest boxes in 1996 based in a shed in Herefordshire. Since then, we’ve grown in size to become one of the largest producers of roost and nest boxes in the UK. The company is run by father and sons; Peter (who started the business and still maintains his interest), Tristan (manufacturing, despatch and product development) and Damian (ecologist, wildlife expert, sales and marketing  and product design).

We aim for our boxes to provide the best accommodation for wildlife and our primary concern with all our products is that they should be designed appropriately for their target species. Our boxes replicate as far as possible the conditions which are found in natural nest and roost sites. Before we design any box we consider the requirements of the proposed inhabitants through reviews of published studies and consultation with experts in their field. This is then combined with our experience of designing and manufacturing boxes and customer feedback to produce what we hope are boxes which offer the best accommodation for wildlife.

During the development of our products we are grateful to have received input of various kinds from many sources including, amongst others, the RSPB, the Barn Owl Trust, the University of Warwick, ZSL London Zoo, Staffordshire University, the Bat Conservation Trust, Aston University, the People's Trust for Endangered Species, Coventry University and the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.

We manufacture our products in our own rural workshops, and combine modern production technology (for instance cutting many of the panels for our boxes using computer controlled machinery), with traditional hand finishing.
