Introduced in 2026 following a request for hole plates to protect the entrance hole of swift boxes from being enlarged by ring necked parakeets. With the UK population of parakeets having increased in range and number over recent years this problem is likely to become more widespread. The swift hole plates are made from stainless steel and screw over the existing entrance hole to prevent the hole being enlarged.
The hole protectors can also be used to smarten up and ensure the entrance hole on swift boxes is at the ideal size for swifts but too small for a Starling to enter. Starlings are aggressive to swifts excluding them from boxes and will bring sticks and other nesting material into the box which make the nest compartment unsuitable for swifts.
These stainless steel hole plates have rounded corners and come complete with screws to attach them to your swift nest box.
